Taxes and Spending
In 2009, Steve Precourt voted to increase fees and taxes on the middle class. My RINO opponent claims to be conservative but his voting record clearly indicates he is anything but fiscally conservative. He has voted to increase taxes on the every day citizen. Last year he also voted for a very large increase in the size of government through the introduction of SunRail and Florida Rail Enterprise. Further, he is introducing legislation this year that caters to wealthy film producers by way of tax incentives.
I propose that instead of tax incentives for one industry, we provide a more broad based tax decrease to attract all industries to the state. Our current corporate tax rate is 5.5%. I suggest we lower that by a half of a percent in order to encourage more companies to relocate here.
Education
Education is extremely important to the future of Florida. In 2009, Steve Precourt supported a budget that decreased education spending by approximately $700 million. This year, Mr. Precourt is proposing a deal that will penalize Florida Bright Scholar recipients if they graduate and decide to take a job out of the state of Florida.
Energy
Florida is a hot spot for all kinds of energy. I propose a solution that is broad based.
We need to open drilling off the coast of Florida. New technologies allow for oil and natural gas platforms to be well out of view while drilling very close to the Florida Coast. Opening our states natural resources will be an immediate job producer, while encouraging natural gas pipelines throughout Florida will provide residents and businesses with low cost energy sources.
The state of Florida is also a great location for research in alternative energy. Through low taxes, we can encourage more alternative energy companies to do business here.
Jobs
While lower taxes and a more comprehensive energy policy will increase jobs in the state, Florida, and especially Orlando, needs to do more to attract tourism and conventions. Limited expansion of the gaming industry will help us compete with destinations like Las Vegas and Puerto Rico.
